CIK-FIA & WMC Call for Female Karters

The FIA Women & Motor Sport Commission and the CIK-FIA have joined forces to launch a new initiative that will provide a young female kart racer with the opportunity to compete in the 2011 CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy. ASNs from around the globe are asked to nominate one driver from their country to attend a qualifying session that will ultimately reward one girl with a funded drive in this low-cost educational formula.

“We are delighted to be working with the CIK-FIA on this new project,” said Women & Motor Sport Commission President Michèle Mouton. “This is a great opportunity for a young girl to demonstrate her talent at international level.”

Racers nominated by their ASNs must be born between 1996 and 1998 and hold a Grace C- Junior International Karting licence. Applications from the ASNs, on behalf of their driver, must be sent to the FIA by 1 March.

The Women & Motor Sport Commission-backed CIK-FIA shoot-out between the top 10 nominated drivers will take place in Geneva, Switzerland on 26/27 April and the selection process will incorporate a mix of driving and non-circuit based activities. The driver deemed to have demonstrated the greatest potential will receive a free entry to the 2011 CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy, along with a Parolin-FIM-LeCont kart and free overalls (the prize excludes testing tyres, fuel, service team and damage to the equipment).

The 2011 CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy takes place over three races, in addition to the official pre-season test session in June. Following the success of the series, the entry has been increased from 34 to 51 karts this season, and each of the other 50 competitors will represent a different country, providing a truly international competition. All competitors will compete on equal terms in karts provided by the official equipment supplier.
