Davide Fore: First Europe, now the world
And so another European season draws to a close for Davide Fore. Once again, the five-time World champion fought out the season amongst the frontrunners, bearing the Maranello team’s colours with bravura. Unfortunately the Italian driver was not often rewarded for his efforts. Fortunately, the Italian Open Masters series provided him with a number of good reasons to be satisfied, enough for him to look forward to the upcoming world meetings with quiet optimism.

After Varennes sur Allier, Davide Fore was back on French soil at the start of August for the European KF1 finals that took place in Salbris, which is one of his favourite tracks. “On a circuit like this one, where the engine is often flat-out, I was worried that the official Vortex drivers would once again be out of sight”. Timed practice gave him reasons to hope that he might be competitive in the race, because he was 5th fastest, just two-tenths of a second behind the poleman. Davide lost more time during the qualifying heats but after two battling third places he was still hoping for a podium place to finish off his first season with Maranello in style. In Race 1, Davide fought like the devil to hold off the pack. Drawing upon all his experience and talent, he was one of the few drivers to break the 59-second barrier during the race. He was 4th past the chequered flag but unfortunately he picked up a 10-second penalty, which dropped him back to 13th position. “Frankly, I though the penalty was severe. I as on the outside and all I did was drift slightly out to the right. On the video that the marshals showed me I could see that a lot of drivers who were on the outside did the same. Tough !” Not giving up for a moment, he attacked Race 2 with brio and climbed no less than eight places up through the field to finish in the top 5.
“It doesn’t matter where I am on the grid, every time I start a race I give it everything I’ve got and try to get the maximum out of the kart. I knew there was not much hope left for me in the championship which, after all the problems I’ve had this season, I finished only in 11th place, but I wanted to show everyone that the Maranello team has done a great job. As it turned out, I clocked the 4th fastest lap in the race and I was the fastest Parilla-powered driver”. |
Victory in Val Vibrata
Two weeks before Salbris, Davide Fore had picked up his second win in the Italian Open Masters. As in his victory in June, he scattered the field in Race 2 on the Val Vibrata circuit, making it four podium places in a row after picking up second place in Race 1. “With that performance I finished the season as vice champion and Maranello took second place in the manufacturers cup”. Results which make Davide Fore believe he can keep his world crown in Belgium. “We have a practice session set up Mariembourg soon and I hope it will make the difference as we look forward to this decisive meeting. But before then I am also hoping for great things in the KZ1 world cup race in Sarno back home in Italy. I recently won the Vesuvius Trophy on this circuit racing a Maranello chassis and I think I have a good chance of keeping the title I won in 2006. In the meantime, I am going to make the most of the month of August to have a few days rest with the family. I’m not planning on going anywhere, I just want to relax with my wife and daughter!” |
