Canary Island, Spain (Sportimage) It´s under a blazzing sun that the qualication heats of the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Final took place today prior the final rounds which will be held tomorrow (Saturday, January 22nd) in Lanzarote, Spain. A total of 34 drivers in the RM1 class as well as the junior class will battle for the title. In the RM1 class, the South African Weisleigh Orr will start from pole with the European Vice-Champion Ken Allemann, from Belgium, beside him in second place. In the junior class, British driver Adam Christodoulou will start from pole with Frenchman Benjamin Salvatore completing the first row.

In the junior class, during the third qualification heat, an enormous pile up involving at least half of the racers happened in the first corner. Because of all the damages, officials decided to stop the race and allowed drivers 30 minutes to repair and verify their equipment. Some of the top drivers were involved in the incident and this decision gave them a second chance. On the second row of tomorrow´s prefinal, we will find Belgium driver Michiel Beutels and Canadian driver Christophe Boisclair.

In the RM1 class, the heats gave us very thight racing and the favorites drivers took the top 3 positions of the standings after the three qualification heats because the defending champion, South African Christiano Morgado, will start from third position in the prefinal..

+ This second place on tomorrow´s grid suits me perfectly, especially after the problems we had to stabilise the chassis in the morning. My strategy in the prefinal is to have Christiano Morgado (3rd) and Orr (1st) battle between themselves. I prefer keeping my energy for the final race because it will get very hot tomorrow and anything can happen in the final race. It is clear that after loosing the 2004 European Championship by only one point, I will play all my cards to take first place and because the new champion ; said Ken Allemann this evening.
